I think of my art as something akin to the rings on a tree - where each painting represents a singular segment of life - typically a period of 6-12 months - that encompasses everything I felt and thought in response to my experience. It depicts the nature that moved me - the various biomes I saw myself in, and the ideas and imagery that lit fire within me. Because I am a visual thinker, these elements blend together internally, forming a unique atmosphere, an entire world within me - a world I inhabit - from the initial spark of inspiration, to the frustrating and often painful process of trying to piece this world together into one cohesive art form while designing, and finally to the serene stillness as I add my final brushstrokes. Each painting is a glimpse into a realm within my mind.
And, when my spirit finally parts with my body in death, you'll be able to count my rings too.

"I think you lost all interest in this world. You were disappointed and discouraged, and lost interest in everything. So you abandoned your physical body. You went to a world apart and you're living a different kind of life there. In a world inside you."
Haruki Murakami, 1Q84
"What is art? Art grows from joy and sorrow, but mostly from sorrow. It grows from human lives."
Edvard Munch
